In the fall of 1972 four Unitarian Universalists who had moved to the Winchester, Virginia area put an ad in the local paper to see if they could find any other UUs or people who might be interest in becoming Us. Four people answered the ad. Our eight founders began to meet together, losing some members and gaining others. By January 1974 we had the ten members required to become a chartered fellowship of the UUA. A building committee to explore options for buying a building or building a new church was formed while in 1999 two of our members generously donated land near our existing church for the construction of a new sanctuary. Members contributed generously during the capital campaign and our dream of a larger church with administrative offices and a religious education wing became a reality in 2004.
