Welcoming CongregationA Welcoming Congregation

The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah Valley (UUCSV) participates in the UUA Welcoming Congregation Program along with most UUA congregations.

The UUA responded when in the 1980s and 1990s the word “welcoming” became a sort of code word for lesbian, gay, and bisexual people. UUA responded with a program to undo homophobia, and later transphobia (prejudice against transgender people) and to be accepting of all.

Along with UUA, the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah Valley welcomes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, genderqueer, questioning, and non-binary people.
