Youth and Children Faith Development

The UUCSV has several approaches for Youth Faith Development and includes multi-generational Sunday services.

The Church is rebuilding and refocusing Youth Faith programs after resuming in-person Sunday services. Programs include:

  • For the youngest children, we have “fidget bags” with toys and activities they can use as they sit with their families during the service.
  • There is a table with children’s toys and activities available in the Sanctuary that parents can allow children to do arts and crafts during the service.
  • The church has a special family viewing room in which families can enjoy the service and have more space for their children to move around during the Sunday service.
  • Some Sunday services consists of a multi-generational “Service for All Ages,” which a family with children and youth can enjoy together. This service has more music and a shorter message than typical Sunday services. It also is appropriate for all attendees, with or without children.
  • Many Sunday services include a “Time For All Ages” led by the minister, or Youth Faith Development Director, or a lay leader. This brief message is about a three-minute part of the service. It may be a story, poem, or book excerpt with a message and wording geared for youth and children.
  • There are also opportunities for youth and children to participate in a Sunday Faith Development class, held during the Sunday service. In this program the youth and children accompany the Youth Faith Development Director and volunteers to a classroom for learning, after attending the first part of the Sunday service in the main Sanctuary.
