How to Become a Member

How to become a memberBecoming a Member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah Valley,  UUCSV, initiates an important covenant of commitment between the new Member and other Members of the Church. For this reason, the Church asks those considering membership

  • to attend Sunday services multiple times
  • to participate in Church activities
  • and to become familiar with Church Principles, Covenant, and Promises for Right Relations (This information is provided in the Order of Service each Sunday.)

The steps to becoming a UUCSV member are listed in the packet of information titled Path to Membership, available on the Welcome table in the Church narthex.

New members must be at least 16 years of age and are asked to complete the forms in the packet which lists the benefits and responsibilities of membership. A minimum annual financial donation is required, which covers an assessment to UUA (Unitarian Universalist Association).

The packet contains a form for members to make an annual monetary pledge as well as information on Church activities in which the new member could participate.

A brochure titled Ways to Connect lists many opportunities to get involved in the Church.

Once the Path to Membership is completed, the Minister or Chair of the Membership Committee will meet with the new member who will then sign the Membership Book.

People with questions about Membership or other aspects of the Church can talk to Sunday Greeters before or after each service. Also, the Membership Committee holds informal UU orientation sessions twice a year.
